Disruptive Innovation Video Works

Disruptive Innovation Video Works  by Greg Downing Creative Innovation Lecture. Disruption delivers innovation: Lessons from Hollywood. Hollywood special effects gurus Mr Greg Downing and the University of Newcastle’s Director of Creative Innovation, Mr Jeff Julian showcased the latest in creative imaging and visual effects techniques at this special public lecture.

With many years of experience in the high-end feature film visual effects industry, these artists have worked on a gamut of blockbuster movies.

Their enthusiasm for taking innovations in film and technology and using them for something completely different has often lead them to breakthroughs in innovation beyond the entertainment industry.

“Unusual combinations lead to breakthrough ideas. A great way to generate original ideas is to look for weird combinations. Many new ideas are really combinations of other ideas,” Mr Jeff Julian said.

“These techniques can be applied by filmmakers, business innovators and researchers. Whether recreating historic events in film, revealing complex processes in scientific visualisation, or illustrating environmental change, these new technologies and innovative approaches can offer powerful media solutions,” Mr Julian said.

Greg Downer is the Founder of xRez Studio. He is a pioneer of extreme resolution gigapixel photography and innovator of new technologies such as 3D photogrammetry, laser scanning, terrain modelling and multi-spectral imaging. His photographic work has been displayed in some of the United States most prestigious museums including the American Museum of Natural History, Cincinnati Art Museum and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and the Tech Museum. He teaches at the Gnomon School for Visual Effects and has published professional training DVDs on photogrammetry and panoramic stitching.

The Greg Downing Creative Innovation Lecture was the first in a new series of “Disruptive Innovation Works” public lectures offered by the University of Newcastle to support disruptive innovation.

“Newcastle is home to a vibrant creative community. As an important contributor to that community, the University is excited to provide opportunities like this for any member of the public to engage with world-leaders in cutting edge creative industries,” said Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Nick Talley.

The Year of Creativity and Innovation Video 2015

The Year of Creativity and Innovation Video 2015. The spirit of creativity and innovation has been a part of the Miami DNA for a very long time, and it is more important than ever as highlighted in the Miami 2020 Strategic Plan. We see creativity and innovation in our approach to teaching and learning, we see it in the research and scholarship of our faculty and students, we see it highlighted in specific courses and programs, and we see it in our everyday operations (see especially Foundation Goal 1). Yet there is so much more we can do to enhance our ability to stimulate creativity and innovation and to make creativity and innovation a signature quality of Miami University. The key is to create more opportunities to link and highlight our many efforts, to encourage collaborations, and to raise our expectations and capabilities.

President Hodge’s Charge to the Steering Committee “Few qualities are more important to individuals and institutions than creativity, imagination, and innovation. A recent survey of employers, for example, found that creativity was the most highly valued quality in prospective employees. In a world of profound and rapid change, those people and institutions that are most creative and innovative will be best equipped to seize new opportunities and will produce the largest impacts.

It is in this spirit that we are designating the next academic year, 2015-16. as a university-wide “Year of Creativity and Innovation” – building on what we did with the “Year of the Arts.” I ask that you do everything possible to stimulate participation and to envision the long-term impact of the year – use your creativity to help make Miami more creative and innovative….The sooner we get everyone thinking of how they can align with this effort, the more meaningful and long-lasting the impact will be. The key will be to encourage many diverse opportunities that add to and integrate our efforts across the entire university and among our alumni. I have no doubt that with your participation, this will be a year of great energy and excitement.”

Innovation Video – Creative Spillover for Innovation

Innovation Video – Creative Spillover for Innovation. Creative SpIN (Creative Spillover for Innovation) is an URBACT Thematic Network that aims at defining and testing tools and methods to connect culture and creative Industries (CCIs) with other sectors of the economy and public/social services in order to stimulate “creative spillovers” and contribute to innovation.

Its ultimate purpose is to trigger creativity in businesses and organisations by encouraging artists, creative professionals as well as cultural and creative industries to engage with other sectors to share their competences, creativity, skills and services. The fundamental assumption is that culture-based creativity is a source of innovation. Culture-based creativity is linked to the ability of people, notably artists, to think imaginatively or metaphorically, to challenge the conventional, and to call on the symbolic and affective to communicate and innovate.

Through the exchange of knowledge and practices, Creative SpIN’s partners (Birmingham City Council, Rotterdam City Council, Mons City Council, Wroc³aw Agglomeration Development Agency, Bologna City Council, Essen City Council, Kortrijk City Council, Tallin Creative Hub, Košice 2013 European Capital of Culture and Óbidos City Council) want identify beneficial complementarities between economic sectors and develop tools and processes to support cross-industrial collaborations.

Innovation Speech: Creativity and Innovation in Cuisine

Innovation Speech: Creativity and Innovation in Cuisine. “The best way to be global is to be local,” renowned Brazilian chef Alex Atala declared at Design Indaba Conference 2013.

View the full version of this inspiring talk at http://inda.ba/15Fga2L

For Atala a chef’s creativity does not lie in creating something new, but rather creating something that surprises people. He also spoke about primitive, versus modern, interpretations of food and flavours. It’s about integrating what is already known into something totally new. “Old ideas can be much more clever, intelligent and modern than new ideas,” he believes.

Our preconceptions are what prohibits us from experiencing new things in a unique manner, Atala proposes. Looking to creativity and innovation, and what it means to chefs, Atala believes that the two are indistinguishable: “Innovation is creativity and utility!”

Challenging the cultural interpretations of food is one of Atala’s key interests. He believes that an entire culture can be summed up in three flavours: “If I said soya sauce, ginger and seaweed your mind goes to Japan. If I said tomato, basil and mozzarella, your mind goes to Italy,” says Atala. In a similar way Atala wants to sum up the taste of the Amazon for both locals and visitors in his native Brazil.

Atala also spoke about recycling flavour and the taste of insects, and how the cultural stigma attached to them prevents us from eating then.

Considering the scarcity of food Atala believes that people need to start eating entire ingredients: “We need to learn how to eat an entire ingredient, it is more than just reducing waste, it’s about being respectful to the environment.”

Atala also showed a video that revealed how he creates his tasting menu at his famous restaurant D.O.M in Sao Paulo
